If you’re looking for a buggy run around in or a stroller that can be used for the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight areas.
If you’re looking for a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.
Frame made of sturdy material
New data show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the decade that were more expensive than common sense, are in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more flexible and simple to drive and look stylish.
The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy can deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. With larger wheels front and back makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and a best 3 wheel travel system year old and found it coped well with grass, cobbles rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote “it is solid to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasionally pumping) come with suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my kids.
The size and shape of the seat is another aspect to consider. The seat should be big enough for your child to be at ease and to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of reclining completely, while others will only allow the parent to be facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or muddy walks. It can be used as a one-person unit from the beginning and can be modified to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4, and includes a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a huge padded seat. Storage options are also great with a large basket and zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain – ideal for off-road buggies. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the pushchair in tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have swivel front wheels to aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This also helps in the event that you hit the roots of a tree or stray kerb as the front wheel will rise up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
A majority of best 3 wheel travel system wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which allows them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They’re also lighter. They are more prone to punctures, so you’ll need to have a repair kit and spare inner tubes on hand.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are among our favorite 3-wheelers. Both buggies feature larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, “perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles” and are able to effortlessly climb and descend kerbs. The buggies also have suspensions that Kath says “smooths out bumps very effectively”.
The downside of having bigger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is a problem if you are using it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow when out and about. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that let you take off the front wheels for more compact storage.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheel buggy can be more maneuverable for a child. The way in which they are built means that the front wheels rotate at a whim and are extremely maneuverable and are ideal for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3-wheeler with her toddler. she wrote: “The Terrain is a pleasure to drive on uneven terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially useful.” I was also impressed with how well it coped with bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or over uneven terrain.”
The only drawback to this amazing maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy’s bigger wheels sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces – something to keep in mind when you live in a city area. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the roominess of the buggy. There’s a big easily accessible basket that’s quite spacious for a buggy of this size as well as a handy zipped pouch on the back of the seat unit, and two smaller mesh pockets under the hood for your keys and phone.
