Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.
For an easy ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. However, they are more prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
Recent figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled vehicle – that noughties symbol of more money than sanity – is in steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking elegant and easy to push.
The rule is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with rough ground and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with the newborn baby and a toddler and found it to be extremely durable. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote “it is sturdy to push and very solid when you’re on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require periodic pumping) offer built-in suspension, which was very comfortable for my children.
The size and shape of the seat is a further factor to think about. You want the seat to be big enough for your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies have the option of lying flat, which allows your child to lie flat and face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.
A great option for those who want to tackle off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from age 4 and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. Storage options are also a plus with a large storage basket, zip pockets on the hood, and an extra pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with larger diameter
Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability while driving on rough terrain. This is perfect for off-road buggies. They also allow you to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to help you navigate around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This is also helpful when you crash into an unintentional tree root or curb, since the front wheel will lift up to keep you from hitting it.
A majority of 3 wheel running buggy wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to tackle a broad range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They’re also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you’ll need a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump handy.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are some of our favourite 3 wheel travel stroller-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM’s Kath, have larger wheels that she claims “perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles”, and can easily go up or down kerbs. The buggies also come with suspensions that Kath says “smooths out bumps with great efficiency”.
Buggies with larger wheels may be quite wide and they may be a challenge to fit into narrow spaces. This is problematic if you intend to use it as a jogger or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when traveling. Many models have small folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheel buggy can be more maneuverable for children. The way they are built means that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are really easy to maneuver and are ideal for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3 wheel pushchair cheap-wheeler with her toddler, and she wrote: “The Terrain is a delight to navigate in rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was especially helpful.” I was also awed by the way it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. It was very stable going downhill or on a rough terrain.”
The only downside to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you need to be aware of if your home area is a city. If this is a concern then a 4-wheeler might be better for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars will protect your child from bumps and scrapes when out and about. They are quick and easy to install and make your child feel secure and safe while out on the town or taking on tough terrain.
This bumper bar is designed to match the sleek lines on the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller. It features a soft, padded surface that offers an ideal place for your child to grab onto while walking. The durable construction and sturdy design ensure that your child can enjoy strolling around town without worrying about falling out of the buggy or leaning too far ahead.
The sling is stowed within the frame, not on top like the modular seat. This provides a lower center of gravity for your newborn at the right height and also offers an excellent weight distribution, making it easier to climb over curbs (it is much easier to push the stroller up and over than you think). MFM reviewer Kath discovered that it was able to cope well with cobbles and grass and is a great choice for jogging thanks to its lockable swivel front wheel and air-filled tyres.
This bumper bar will turn heads wherever it is used. It has a classy and stylish look. Available in a range of finishes and colours that can be customized to match your style. The bumper bar can be easily removed and put in place with the quick-release mechanism. Furthermore the bumper bar is easy to clean, and is made of durable materials that are simple to wipe down. This makes it a great option for families that want an elegant and safe accessory for their stroller.
Comfort

With perfect geometry and engineering, as well as weight distribution this type of buggy can change direction on a dime and be a breeze to steer with one hand; and all Mountain Buggies are tested to the same rigorous stability standards and tests as buggies with four wheels.
The seat is made of fabric placed snugly within the frame, not on top of it like modular seats, the Sport’s clever design enables it to have a lower centre of gravity that is the perfect level for your child – providing you with a smoother push, a less hefty curb pop (you do not require the same amount of weight or effort to lift the hood of your buggy up and over the curb) and a greater balance and stability. With the 16″ rear wheels, the lockable front wheel, and air-filled tyres, you can enjoy a smoother, more comfortable jogging.

But that’s not the only reason you should love this buggy – our MFM reviewer Kath loved how spacious it is too. There’s a nimble, large basket that is surprising spacious for a vehicle that’s this big. There’s also a handy pouch on the back unit, as well as two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood to keep your keys and phone.
