1. Smeg BCC02
Designed by Milan-based firm Deep Design, this sleek compact and striking machine pairs the brand’s inimitable retro style with modern technology. It is able to handle every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and then tamping them into a puck, to texturing milk and dispensing the correct volume – so you can make high-quality barista hot drinks with the click of the button.
The machine also features an elegant brushed aluminium front and is available in black, red or taupe, meaning it’s easy to integrate into the majority of kitchen designs. The machine does not come without faults however. Many reviewers felt that it was quite expensive for a cup to bean to cup equipment maker (and it doesn’t come with the milk pitcher).
There were also many glowing reviews about this machine’s ease of use and the quality of the coffee. The digital display gives information and step-bystep instructions throughout the entire process of brewing that will help you make your drink perfect every time. It even allows you to adjust the grind size if not exactly right. It’s almost like having a personal home barista (minus Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak and Elon Musk’s rocket-building abilities).
This model is ideal for those who prefer milky drinks. The steam wand can be adjusted upwards and downwards so that it fits most drinking vessels, excluding Viking drinking horns. We were awestruck by the speed and efficiency of the frothing procedure, too. It also produces an excellent espresso, with a great crema and full flavor despite its compact size.
The BCC02 is an excellent all-rounder that’s quiet, effective and provides great value for money at its current price of PS499. The only issue is that it does not provide the same level of customization as other bean to cup equipment-to-cup machines that we have tried. It’s got a 15-bar pump instead of the typical 19 bars, which isn’t as good to make high-quality espressos. This is a great machine for those who like their coffee dark and strong. The only thing that could be a problem for some people is the price. The machine isn’t cheap, at nearly PS999. It’s still less expensive than similar Jura machines that have similar features.
Barista TS smart is backed by a generous two-year warranty. This is more than the typical one-year guarantee, so it is a great indication of trust from the manufacturer.
