Keyless Entry System
Smart keys are found on all Lamborghini models. They can be used to open and lock the doors and start the car and also disarm the immobilizer with the need for the traditional metal key. Smart keys function by using an electronic transponder on the key’s back. It communicates with the car’s computer via a coded signal when the key is within five feet.
The keys are equipped with an electronic controller chip that generates a 40-bit code each time the key’s transmitter button is press. This code is sent to the receiver. The hopping/rolling codes stop the receiver and transmitter from detecting each other’s signals so the key is only able to be used on one lamborghini countach key.
To duplicate a key equipped with this kind of electronic system, you must have a special coder that can only be purchased from a certified locksmith or Lamborghini dealer. This equipment is costly and is the primary reason why re-creating keys with digital technology is more expensive than cutting a traditional metal bladed car key.
Key Fob
The key fob houses tiny remote transmitter that communicates with the car’s computer system using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. It transmits a coded message to an RFID chip embedded in the vehicle. The RFID chip then sends the information back to the key fob. When the key fob is activated the car can sense the information sent by the chip, and act in the same manner.
The fob might also have buttons that trigger other functions, for example, locking and unlocking doors, opening the power sunroof, or folding the power side mirrors. It could also start the engine and flash a light to inform you that it has done this.
You can easily replace the fobs at an auto dealer or a retailer who sells the fobs. You can also check the owner’s guide to get instructions on how to replace the battery. It’s usually a simple task that requires only some minutes.
If your keys don’t function, it’s likely the ignition switch. This component is vulnerable to excessive wear and tear, or damage that can cause it to break. If the ignition switch malfunctions, it will stop the car from starting, preventing you from driving it. This can be a very dangerous situation, so it’s essential to take it seriously and fix it as soon as possible.
Remote Keyless System Receiver Module
The receiver is an radio frequency (RF) unit that houses all the programming logic required for the RKE system. It is located beneath the lower instrument panel of the driver, near the glovebox’s opening. The RF receiver is radio transmitter operating at 315 MHz, receives and decodes data from the RKE keyfob. The data stream is usually between 64 and 128 bits and includes the preamble, command code and rolling codes. The RF signal employs amplitude-shift keying to reduce battery consumption and increase transmission range.
When a user presses one of the function switches on the RKE key fob, it activates mechanical actuators within the key fob which press the appropriate button on the receiver’s RF. This triggers a signaling process to send a message back to the BCM which indicates that the function switch was activated.
The BCM then transmits a message to the RKE transmitter to transmit the RF radio code to the vehicle based on the transmitted code. The receiver also stores the transmitter’s codes in its memory, allowing up to four remote keyless entry transmitters to operate the vehicle at the same time. The RF receiver will sound a chime when it receives a signal from a transmitter that is not compatible with the receiver.
Troubleshooting
Fault diagnosis is a technique employed to identify the source of a fault within a system by analysing the behaviour of its components. Fault diagnosis is an essential element of the development process and can help reduce time to develop because it eliminates the necessity for a large amount of testing. It also allows for rapid identification of defects and improves the reliability of the system. The importance of fault diagnosis is particularly for high-speed systems as malfunctions can be extremely costly.
Today, Lamborghini cars are often fitted with push to start ignition technology, commonly referred to as smart key. It allows you to start your car by simply pressing an on the dash-board instead of turning a traditional key into the ignition cylinder. Our specially trained automotive locksmiths are adept at cutting and programming supplementary keys for Lamborghini smart key systems with unique diagnostic devices and software.
