Choosing a double pram and pushchair (mouse click the following article)
A double pram or pushchair will simplify the lives of families, especially when walking on busy roads or in stores and shops. Look for a model with ample storage space for nappies, snacks, and other essentials.
Some parents who are new to the family opt for a future proof pushchair that can be used as a single stroller when baby is born, and later changed into a twin mode once he or she is old enough. Joolz offers a variety of these options.
Tandem
The announcement that you’re expecting the birth of a child is one of the most exciting times in life. However, once the initial excitement wears off and the reality sets in, you may be faced with a variety of decisions about how to prepare your family for the arrival of your new one or ones. The right pram or stroller is among the most crucial considerations.
Tandem prams, also referred as “in-line” double prams are a classic style with two bassinets or seats placed side by side. The front seat, which is usually padded, reclines flat and is suitable for newborns. The second seat is a bit higher and designed to fit toddlers as young as three years old. Some models have seats that can be reversible, so you can choose whether your children face towards each other or gaze at you. Many tandems have the option to convert into a single pushchair if you decide your oldest child doesn’t require the second seat.
A tandem is cheaper than a twin pram and is an excellent choice for parents who wish to save money, but without losing safety or function. However, a drawback of a tandem is that it may be a bit heavy and lengthy to steer especially when going up or down kerbs. It is generally less stable than a twin pram, especially if the child who is older is seated in the front. A tandem can be difficult to transport on public transport, and it can be difficult to navigate on narrow roads.
The iCandy Peach, a popular model with a focus on image, is a great alternative for parents with one child who want a sleeker design. However, the tandem mode makes it feel a bit heavy and long to push. It comes with an expanded frame that increases in dimensions to accommodate the second seat. It can be used with a range of combinations of car seats, buggy seats, and carrycots (two at a time or separately). The iCandy Wave is another lightweight twin stroller tandem option that’s easy to use and compatible with a range of carrycots and car seats.
Side by side
There are many things to think about when selecting a double buggy pram or pushchair. If you’re buying for twins or siblings who are close in age there are plenty of configuration options to consider. Tandem prams (also called side by sides prams) are popular choices as they can be configured to accommodate infants in a bassinet on top while the older infant or toddler sits in the second seat below.
Some models have reversible seats that allow you to customize the seating arrangement for your family throughout the toddler and baby years. This allows you to keep your kids always in your sights and also gives them a chance to get to know one another as they walk.
Tandem prams can be jogging buggies, or all-terrain buggies. They are great for outdoor excursions, like to the park. They’re also a good option if you need to brave narrow aisles in the supermarket or at checkouts, as they are generally more compact than single-seaters.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 Pram, for example, can be used as a tandem pram from birth in the dual mode by adding the use of the rumble seat (PS249). You can then switch to the single mode once your baby grows out of the rumble seat or select the adaptors for car capsules (PS53) to transform it into a traveler from newborn to toddler.
Another alternative is the Side by Side Pram from Babybee. This double pram side-by-side is available in a range of colours and has an elegant modern design. It is designed to be used from birth, you can also include the LUNA newborn Cocoon (PS262) and the LUNA Infant Seats (PS53 each).
If you’re looking for a sleek, elegant pushchair that can be converted into a side-by-side double, the Egg 2 from Chicco is a great option. It’s available in a variety of infant and carrycot configurations to accommodate twins or siblings of varying ages and is super-easy to fold. It’s also fairly light, which makes it an ideal choice for families with smaller cars or a limited storage space.
Convertible
The top double prams and pushchairs are versatile, and some are even capable of changing seating configurations to meet your family’s changing needs. It is possible to fit up to three children on the seat board or two toddlers in the seats, while still having enough space to carry shopping bags. Accessories like rain covers are also available. Convertible sit n stand double stroller strollers tend to be heavier and bulkier than single pushchairs due to the fact that they need to hold two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow is one example of a convertible that is affordable that is extremely user-friendly, but our test subjects felt it was a little heavy for its price.
Some convertible double strollers like the Baby Jogger City Select 2, have a carrycot option which is suitable for newborns. This allows the double stroller to be compacted and reduced in size when not used. Our testers were impressed with the City Select’s clever one-handed fold. However, it does take some time to master. It’s also very agile and responsive even despite its size.
The Cybex Mockingbird single-to-double stroller is another affordable option. It can be transformed from a parent facing infant car seat to a forward-facing toddler seat. The bassinet feature is a great choice for infants.
For more flexibility, look for a convertible with dual modes such as the iCandy Peach. It’s a compact double stroller that is able to accommodate two children in a tandem. It can be used to create a tandem by adding a second seat kit. It is responsive and nimble, and our testers liked its sleek design. It’s not as light as the other models on our list however it does come with a huge basket that is useful for parents who are carrying bags filled with toys and food items.
Lightweight
Convertible double strollers are a great option for parents who already have a child and expect the arrival of a second. The iCandy Peach allows you to transform from a single to a double pushchair by the addition of either a toddler seat or the brand’s optional carrycot (which is suitable for sleep overs). The seats are extremely comfortable and our testers appreciate that they can recline in a variety of positions. They also appreciate the feature that the canopy comes with a peekaboo window and UPF 50+ protection. The rear seat can be raised to provide an elevated platform for a child to get off and on, so that they can reach items in the shopping basket.
The only drawback of the iCandy Peach is that it is quite heavy. However, Cher believed that it was balanced by how easy it is to manoeuvre and how spacious the storage space is with two hanging child and parent cup holders, seat-back pockets and a large underseat storage basket. Cher also appreciated the seat’s design, which is convertible, which means they can be set to face one another for siblings who want to chat and interact together while out and out and about.
The Delta Children LX Side-by-Side Stroller is a lighter option however, it is still awe-inspiring. It weighs just 18 pounds, is small, and has self-standing fold, making it easy to transport or store in your trunk. Parents love the quality of the materials and workmanship as well as the affordable price. The only issue is that the seats don’t recline as far as some other models we’ve examined and the rear seat doesn’t have great visibility due to its positioning that is higher than the front seat.
Another popular choice is the Joolz Geo 3, which is slim and sleek. It is also easy to steer, and comes with an attractive design and lifetime guarantee. While they’re smaller side-by-side prams may be more spacious than tandems and inline doubles. This makes them difficult to maneuver on busy streets and in shops. They are also shorter and therefore more maneuverable in tight spaces.
