Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.

The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a huge tour around the world. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer’s hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band’s coverage of Africa during their recent tour. Toto’s touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
