In 2008, a string of lineup changes and a string of albums that were disappointing led Toto to break up for a couple of years. However, the group resumed performing in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around the Sun.

The album was a return to the band’s top form, and the tour that accompanied it featured sold-out concerts in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gathered momentum after the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
