About Toto

Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word that means “all inclusive,” the group was intent on exploring all styles of music.

The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto’s touring group includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
