French-door refrigerators are a perfect blend of form and function. They feature elegant double doors that open to reveal an enormous fridge on top, and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out because of their unique features, including through-the-door dispensers as well as higher-end Ice makers.

We contacted Ladina Schopf – an interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects – for her advice on how to choose the right home. They evaluated storage capacity and layout and energy efficiency, among other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is aimed at those who wish to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchens. This refrigerator is packed with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don’t mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator’s freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is more, I’d expect higher quality.

This refrigerator is a good option, despite the slight blip. It has a large freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French door fridges. It also holds a lot of frozen food compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, you’ll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet, which is the standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It also has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door, though it’s not the largest I’ve seen.

You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to create a custom storage setup for whatever you have to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS also looks attractive. The LED lighting is an appealing touch. The storage bins in the door have a third shelf which can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers have temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They’re easy to open and close, but I found their textured plastic coatings a bit difficult on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the all the features you’d expect from a fridge at this price with Wi-Fi and app support via GE’s SmartHQ software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and has many options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked as well as when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter has to be changed.

It would be nice it GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill the option that is available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to select how many cups they want to disperse. The fridge displays a countdown to reveal how much water remains but it’s not as effective as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It is designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen Bosch’s French door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and two compressors to preserve food. The Ice maker is among the top we’ve tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of ice with a low water usage. This refrigerator is a great option for households with a single member or kitchenettes who want an integrated look and top of the line food preservation.

This fridge was rated the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and never fluctuating more than a fraction of a degree–this is key to avoiding freezer burn. The fridge section of the refrigerator also did well. It reached the initial temperature within a matter of hours, and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its top-of-the-line appliances which is why it’s no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch’s Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and control your refrigerator remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is pricey and has great features and capabilities at a reasonable price.

While the fridge is a fantastic appliance however, it is important to understand the limitations. It has a narrow shelf space, which means you may have to think creatively when it comes to storing large items. The shelves are not impervious to spills and could easily be damaged or stained by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they should be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth french door refrigerator freezer Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage in an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the refrigerator has a standard French-door layout with gallon-sized door bins on each door and two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set of sleeker drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more space. There’s also a full-width storage drawer for food items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that the ice maker is in the freezer, making it easy to transfer the ice to the refrigerator to be used when it is needed. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that can help you better organize the placement of items. It also has a large container for storing frozen food, and a separate bin for ice.

Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It’s a nice way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially when you’re away from home.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn’t improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. The refrigerator took longer to defrost food and chill it than the other fridges we test. This is likely due to the larger capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. The sunken handles let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people struggle to close them without slamming them. It would have been better if they came with a front-mounted handle.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good choice for those who want to combine the advantages of a fridge with a french door fridge freezer nz door with an efficient layout. It has a capacity that is superior to counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It’s also a bit cheaper than the most expensive counter depth refrigerator with an icemaker, which makes it a great option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a great choice for those looking for a french door fridge with water dispenser-door refrigerator that doesn’t cost a lot of budget. It’s a simple fridge that might not be as eye-catching as some of its competitors however it has enough features to make a good option. Its most notable feature is the temperature adjustable drawer which helps keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a large water and ice maker dispenser.

Another nice feature is the “Chill Drawer” that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you divert a portion of the refrigerator’s cooling power directly into this area, so you can store foods that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider located outside the drawer. It is also possible to use this to set a general cooling level for the whole fridge, however, I’ve found that changing the general settings tends be more effective than specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the fridge. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn’t vary very far from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a great performance, but isn’t quite at the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with an intelligent thermometer to get more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF’s exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey body with a “smudge-proof” finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I’ve tested.
