There is a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Our service is private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes a medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your assessment You will be advised whether medication is appropriate for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which can be scheduled in person, via video link or by telephone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and, if you decide to begin taking medication, we will offer to titrate dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks. It requires adjusting your child’s dosage gradually until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medicines before you can find the one that best suits your child’s ADHD. It is essential that parents participate in the titration process and be on the lookout for their child’s behavior so that they can inform doctors if the medication is helping or causing adverse reactions.

If you do not decide to return to NHS treatment the medication you take will be given as a prescription from a private adhd medication titration pharmacy that you’ll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You’ll need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medications. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is completed you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with the psychiatrist as necessary. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in certain cases, it may be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a discussion and review of your dosage of medication and any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration process adhd appointments is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, as well as any issues with your relationships that you may be having or other mental health issues you may be suffering from. If you’re not sure what you would prefer it is recommended that you talk to your GP before booking your private appointment as certain providers have different policies about whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also recommend to check if your GP accepts a “Shared-Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic, you will be referred back to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

The medication process is an essential element of the process for many people who are seeking an official ADHD diagnosis. It isn’t easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to request your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can pick a provider who offers a private titration adhd assessment service and titration adhd medication.
