Buying a Pram Newborn
Parents and caregivers can count on prams pushchairs prams pushchairs and twin pushchairs that can be multi-functional and versatile. They are the co-pilots on the journey of your child.
A pram newborn is a must for newborns and babies. It has a deep, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.
A pram typically comes with a bassinet but can be converted to a stroller seat once baby is ready.
Safety
Newborns are incredibly fragile and should be kept as safe as you can. A stroller or pram that has safety features will keep your baby in a safe and comfortable environment during travel. A stroller or pram should have a working break and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps; 2 waist straps; and the crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Verify that the stroller you choose meets these standards.
Find a pram that allows your baby to ride in the recommended lying-flat position. This position is supportive for your baby and prevents the risk of a dangerous spinal curve that can lead to spinal issues. It also lowers the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation, by keeping the airways free. Most prams can be used right from the moment of birth. They come with an adjustable seat that reclines into a lay-flat mode for younger infants and converts into a twin pushchair for older children.
The suspension on the pram is crucial because it affects the smoothness of the ride. A pram that has many suspensions is likely to cost more but it might be worth it to purchase this feature if you intend to use your pram daily for a couple of years or more.
You should always be sure to read the instruction manual and check the warning labels for your stroller or pram. It is also important to ensure that your stroller is parked in a secure location free of bicycles, traffic or any other dangers when it isn’t being used. Also, you should remove any bags or other items from the handles as they could cause your baby to get caught or suffocate.
A pram or stroller should not be left unattended with a baby in it even if they are asleep. They can get wriggling and become trapped, or the pram may roll away and they might be injured. Hanging bags or other items on the handles isn’t a good thing since they could fall and hit your child in the head.
Comfort
It is essential that newborns have the option to lie flat, as this promotes lung and back development. Cocoons or carrycots are found on many prams. They create a cozy environment that is comfortable for your baby and can be detached easily from the frame. Others, such as the egg2’s bucket-style seat do not recline to lie flat, but provide a comfy ride for your baby.
Some prams come with an additional bassinet or seat for infants. This lets you easily switch between the sleeping and sitting positions depending on what your baby needs. It is commonly described as a “travel system and is the very first thing you should do with your newborn.
Choose a babiie stroller with two shoulder straps (ideally with padding) and a five-point safety harness that fits your bub’s body securely. Check that there are no gaps or areas where fingers can be trapped. Also, make sure that the buckles are simple for older children to use. It’s also worth considering whether you’d prefer a pram that faces the parent or not – it’s great to keep an eye on your child and helping them feel secure by the familiarity of their parents.
Some prams, like the Graco Near2Me, come with a nifty raise and lower feature that brings your baby right up to your face at the push of an button, which our parent testers really loved! This is a great way to keep connected to your baby, especially when they’re sleeping. If you’re looking for a travel system, make sure that the frame is compatible with the car capsule you’ve chosen to avoid the need to wake them up every time you’re changing between car, pram and back.
Convenience
When buying a pram newborn it is crucial to think about the needs of your baby’s transportation. Some prams include a bassinet, carrycot or a seat that can recline to a flat position. This is important for your baby’s spinal development and breathing. It is important to check out the other accessories the pram has, such as a changing bag and footmuff that are essential to keep your baby warm in the colder winter months.
Some strollers and prams can be converted to travel systems. You can connect a car pod to the frame using adaptors, so you can move your child from the car to the pushchair without waking them up. These can be useful if you have a busy schedule or don’t have the big enough boot for prams, however it is worth bearing in mind that your child will need to be old enough and able to sit up on their own before you can change them from car capsule to pram.
Another feature you may want to consider is the ability to raise and lower the infant’s seat from a low to a high setting, which keeps eye contact with them and keeps them close to you. This is something our parent tester found was extremely useful for her 10-month-old boy! One example is the Graco Near2Me that allows your child to glide up’ to you with the push of an button.
Also, ensure that your pram newborn has a sturdy base with wheels that can handle bumps and potholes and that you are able to fold it down easily and make sure the safety harness is in good working order, fits comfortably and securely (five-point instead of three-point) and is adjustable as your child grows. You should be able store shopping bags and changing bags beneath the pram (but keep in mind that excessive weight could cause it to topple over). If you’re not sure which model to go with, try some different models at your local store.
