The group started out as a group and recorded two albums: 1979’s self titled debut and 1980’s Armed to the Teeth. Although the band have a wide range of musical backgrounds, their biggest success was achieved in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a major blockbuster, but it was not without its own set of issues. The record companies put Toto under pressure to deliver a hit single or they would rescind them. Luckily for Toto, they did with the aid of the smash single “Africa.”

The album opens with a strong and 안전놀이터 (full report) pounding sound with tracks like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write amazing AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into your mind. But the album also contains some more mellow, jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distortion AOR and could sound completely wrong, but actually works amazingly well.
After Toto IV The band’s fortunes changed to the downside. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career and the band went through several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Line-up
The album’s third, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet arrangement of previous albums. It was a stronger, more constant effort with an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. Its edgier sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball’s greater proficiency on the drums, as well as a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich’s work was more refined, sharper and less cloned on previous recordings.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded an Amsterdam live show that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. A new studio album followed a few months later, and the group embarked on a world-wide tour to promote the album. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demo tapes and tapes to make a new record featuring songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a double album titled Then and Now. It was the first album in the history of the band not to feature any single song that had the word “A” in its title. It also included one previously not released track, “Kari-Anne”.
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis infection that limited his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar’s drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes and the other original members of Asia–Wetton, Palmer, and Howe–convened a meeting in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility of formally restructuring the band. This lineup, with the exception of Howe (who was working with Yes at the time), eventually became known as Toto XIV and toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and 스포츠토토 Dominique Taplin. The group also had a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
